Idol Worship

In two days, I will be (finally) seeing one of my favorite bands live. I fell in love with The Sounds when I was a junior in college (they're one of the bands I hold close to my heart and don't like to share). I missed out on seeing them when I was in London...but Saturday, I'm finally going to see them live. Sure, they're only opening for No Doubt. But I can't tell you how much more excited I am to see the opening band than the main act.

Needless to say, Maja, The Sounds' lead singer is totally one of my idols. So in lieu of this exciting venture, I bring you "Idol Worship" -- a list of all the female figures that I admire (some of them, for very strange reasons...).

Maja Ivarsson
As I stated above, Maja is the singer of The Sounds. Love her voice, love her stage presence, love the fact that she was a clasically trained violinist, love the fact that she's Swedish. It's nice to see another girl (besides Gwen) hold her own in an all boy band. Plus, I can't get sick of her band's music. It's fun, it's dancy, and it's unlike anything on the radio right now.

Britney
I have exhausted the Britney topic. You should all just get it by now.

Jenna Jameson
It has nothing to do with the porn. I don't even watch the porn. It has nothing to do with the porn, but everything to do with her novel "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale." The shit that life has thrown at Jameson is incredible: two rapes, growing up without a mother, a horrible drug addiction, asshole boyfriends, a father who's a cop, but still manages to get in trouble with her brother and then run away for months at a time. What's amazing is that Jameson managed to proverbially fuck all these people over on her terms. I'm sure there's a longer blog post in this once I re-read the book for the thousandth time...but honestly. I can't get over it. And congrats to her. She just gave birth to twins this spring.

Chelsea Handler
This bitch already got her own post.

Megan McCafferty
Love, love, love McCafferty's writing. I even got to interview her for a student story piece when I was a freshman in college. Love that she started out in magazine writing/editing and became a bestselling author. A girl can dream. :)
